YoYo Games rolls out an asset store for GameMaker: Studio

GameMaker progenitor YoYo Games has officially opened its GameMaker Marketplace for business after soft-launching a beta version of the asset store in July. Anyone with a GameMaker: Studio license can buy assets like sprites, scripts and projects from the store, though those assets are currently only compatible with the beta version of the GameMaker: Studio software known as GameMaker Studio Early Access. Those who pay for a Professional-level license can sell their own assets through the store, though YoYoGames representatives have stated in a forum post that YoYoGames takes a 30 percent cut of all Marketplace profits. That's roughly equivalent to the cut Unity takes from all sales on its Unity Asset Store, which launched back in 2010. Going forward, YoYoGames plans to update the Marketplace to support more types of salable content, including educational resources like guides and tutorials on platform-specific development. The company is also expanding the cross-platform development engine's reach, most recently to Xbox One and current Windows platforms via a partnership with Microsoft.
