Yooka-Laylee developer Playtonic has opened a second studio in the UK.

Playtonic was established by a cohort of former Rare developers in 2014. The studio released its debut title Yooka-Laylee in 2017 and has also branched into publishing.

As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, the new office is based in Leamington Spa and will initially house around 10 employees.

Playtonic's head of software Simon Gerges said he's been pushing for a second studio for a while, and explained the company wanted to broaden its reach.

"We're looking at a hybrid way of working, but we still believe in the power of office working. We have a small office that fits up to ten initially, and we'll see how that goes," added Gerges, indicating Playtonic would considering expanding the new office if neccesary.

The news comes a few months after Tencent purchased a minority stake in Playtonic, giving the studio the resources required to "fast-track" a number of projects and bolster its publishing capabilities.
