Xbox 360 Sells 500K At Retail In June, Kinect Lineup To 'Triple By The End Of The Year'

Alongside the June 2011 NPD report, Microsoft announced that Xbox 360 continued to lead retail console sales, and sold 507,000 units, which the company says is nearly twice as many as other home console competitors.
Alongside NPD's U.S. video game retail sales figures for June 2011, Microsoft announced that Xbox 360 continued to lead retail console sales, and sold 507,000 units, which the company says is nearly twice as many as other home console competitors. Xbox 360 has been the top-selling home console at U.S. retail for 12 of the past 13 months, and Microsoft noted that it was the only console to see year-over-year growth in June -- to compare, the Xbox 360 sold 194,600 units in June 2010. Microsoft also announced that the total monthly retail spend on the Xbox 360 platform, including hardware, software, and accessories, totaled $350 million, up from $265 million last month. The top 10 NPD games at U.S. retail for June 2011 included four Xbox 360 titles, including NBA 2K11, L.A. Noire, Duke Nukem Forever, and Call of Duty: Black Ops, all of which saw releases on other platforms. Looking toward the end of the year, Microsoft said, "the size of the Kinect games portfolio will triple by the end of the year," and that the console will hold its lead over other platforms, selling more hardware units than the PlayStation 3 and Wii by the end of 2011. Sony also released a statement to correspond with the June 2011 NPDs, noting that Sucker Punch's platform-exclusive inFamous 2 was the top selling game SKU at North American retail.
