Wait, did a comic book just reveal the race of the Master Chief? (Halo)

What was the point of that? Why was that allowed?

I'm rather limited in the Halo universe. I've only played Halo I/II for both the X-BoX and PC. So, excuse me. But, what in the world was the point of revealing the race/eye color/hair color of the Chief?
