Assassin's Creed publisher Ubisoft plans to open a new studio in the Saguenay province of Quebec. 

The Canadian office is due to open early next year, and will focus on building out the company's online services and tech.

"We are entrusting Ubisoft Saguenay with a mandate that is resolutely focused on the future," said Yannis Mallat, the studio's newly-appointed managing director.

"The development of connected experiences that allow millions of players to meet and interact on online game platforms is a leading growth and innovation driver not only for Ubisoft, but for the entire video game industry as a whole." 

The new opening is part of Ubisoft's larger expansion plan for the Quebec region, and the French outfit wants to invest around $780 million to create 1000 new jobs in the province by 2027. 

The Saguenay office alone is expected to grow to around 125 employees in the next give years, while Ubisoft anticipates creating 200 new jobs for Quebec City and another 675 in Montreal. The company also intends to open another studio in Quebec within the next decade.
