A new, Swedish studio is joining Ubisoft’s international family of development houses. The French company has announced that it will be opening up a new studio in the Nordic region, dubbed Ubisoft Stockholm.

The freshly minted studio’s first order of business is to work alongside Massive, another Ubisoft subsidiary, on its Avatar game and other triple-A projects.

Currently, Ubisoft plans to staff the Stockholm studio with 100 new faces within the next two years, alongside the additional 200 team members it is already looking to recruit for Massive.

“Stockholm is one of the great gaming hubs of the world with a huge pool of experienced and creative talent. That together with an international buzz and a great atmosphere makes Stockholm a very unique place to create amazing games,” said Patrick Bach in a blog post announcing the new studio.

Bach, a longtime game developer and former studio manager at EA Dice, has been tapped to head up Ubisoft's fresh development effort in Stockholm.

“To make great games you need a great team, a clear vision, great working conditions and a company backing you and supporting those pillars,” said Bach. “I think we’ve got all those ingredients combined to make this studio a success, and offer something new on the dev scene in Stockholm.”
