Despite closing down Homefront developer Kaos Studios this week, THQ has confirmed that the shooter will see a follow-up with some "really interesting announcements" in the future.
Talking to news site Eurogamer, THQ core games head
Danny Bilson noted that the franchise will be moving forward, with the company learning from the mistakes of the original.
"Everything we learned from
Homefront you'll see executed in other games going forward, and including that franchise going forward. We'll have some really interesting announcements in the future about the future of that brand," he explained.
Regarding development of the first title, he said, "It was a tremendous learning experience for us. We learned a lot about managing dedicated servers. We got very ambitious with dedicated servers."
"I put a lot of myself into that effort on that game. I learned a lot. I still think it's creatively a fantastic game, a great place to go. The environmental storytelling is excellent. The marketing was wonderful. That brand resonated with a lot of people emotionally." The future of
Homefront series is now down to THQ's Montreal studio.
Despite
lower-than-expected review scores that seem tied to
a temporary stock dip for THQ, the Kaos-developed
Homefront sold an estimated million copies worldwide in its first 10 days on store shelves.
