Swedish studio Gigantic Duck has raised SEK 10 million ($1.2 million) in funding to continue the development of its debut game, Bombergrounds: Battle Royale.

The cash will allow the company to accelerate product development and support the PC and mobile title, which launched in early access in March 2020.

The free-to-play massively multiplayer action game amassed over 700,000 players within months of hitting shelves, and that milestone ultimately prompted Gigantic Duck to seek outside investment.

"We were humbled by the success of our game and quickly realized the potential of the product. It was also then that we realized that we needed to raise capital to do the game justice," commented company VP and co-founder, Alexander Martinovic.

Investors AB Chiffonjén and 2M Invest will both take a seat on the Gigantic Duck board following the deal.
