Finnish mobile game company Supercell made its yearly financial report this week, claiming that profits had doubled and revenue tripled in 2014 thanks to top F2P earners like Boom Beach and Clash of Clans.
The company reportedly reaped €1.5 billion (~$1.64 billion USD) in revenue last year, up from €519 million (~$566 million USD) in 2013.
Of that, it saw €515 million (~$562 million USD) in earnings, a significant jump from the €243 million (~$265 million USD) in earnings it reported last year.
It's interesting to note that Supercell has managed to keep its headcount relatively low amid this financial growth. Back in 2012, Supercell CEO Ilkka Paananen told Gamasutra that he "has this thing about becoming too big" and wants to avoid the dangers of rapid expansion.
Today the Guardian reports that Supercell only expanded its headcount by about 12 people in 2014; that brings its total staff size to around 150 people, a tight ship compared to rival F2P game company King, which reportedly reaped a bit more revenue in 2014 (~$2.26 billion USD) with a staff of roughly 1,200.
