SGN acquires Marvel Avengers Academy developer, TinyCo

San Francisco-based mobile dev TinyCo, creator of Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff and Marvel Avengers Academy, has been acquired by independent mobile platform, SGN. 

Details of the deal weren't disclosed, although this is the third acquisition SGN has made since netting $130 million from South Korea's Netmarble Games last July.

TinyCo will continue to be run by current CEO and co-founder, Suli Ali. Since April 2014 the studio has seen downloads for its two brand-driven titles surpass 100 million, and expects revenues top $100 million by the end of this year. 

After being founded by former MySpace co-founders Chris DeWolfe and Aber Whitcomb in 2010, SGN laid out its intention to become a mobile gaming "titan." 

DeWolfe believes the TinyCo acquisition will help SGN hit that target by imbuing its portfolio with a greater sense of diversity.

"Suli and TinyCo realized early on the enormous potential of mobile in this industry, and they foresaw the massive opportunities for gaming in entertainment," said DeWolfe. 

"Buying TinyCo helps us diversify the types of games we offer and advance our ambition to create a mobile gaming giant.”

Following the purchase, TinyCo says it will continue to build-out its own roster of titles based on successful Hollywood franchises.
