Proving that what is dead may never die, Capcom has teamed up with iam8bit to resurrect Street Fighter II on the SNES.

The flashy reissue is limited to 5500 units, and will retail for $100. Each order will come in a trifold box with foil, gloss, and embossments. Inside you'll find a working game cartridge, an instruction booklet, and other "retro pack-in surprises."

The cartridge itself will come in either "Opaque Ryu Headband Red" or "Glow-in-the-Dark Blanka Green," but you won't be able to pick your favorite color, as each is inserted at random.

While the news is no doubt more interesting for collectors, it's also another signal that the retro renaissance might be upon us.

The popularity of Nintendo's prized NES and SNES mini consoles proves there's an appetite amongst consumers for retro revivals, and if these vintage ventures continue to bear fruit, we might soon see even more classic titles being yanked into the future.

Still, before you get too excited at the prospect of reliving your glory days, we should probably point out that although the Steet Fighter II cartridge is playable, a warning on the iam8bit site advises against sticking it in your cherished SNES -- unless you want to commit it to the flames.

"Use of this reproduction game cartridge on the SNES gaming hardware may cause the SNES console to overheat or catch fire," cautions the page.

"The SNES hardware is deemed a vintage collectible, so please exercise extreme caution when using the Product and make sure there is fire extinguishment equipment nearby. Use of the Product is at the sole risk of the user."
