PS Vita sales rocket in Japan following price cut

It seems like a price cut on the PS Vita in Japan was just what the doctor ordered, as the handheld saw sales increase fivefold week-over-week. On February 28, both the Wi-Fi and 3G versions of the device were lowered in price to 19,980 yen ($215), down from 24,980 yen ($269) for the Wi-Fi model, and 29,980 yen ($323) for the 3G model. As a result, Sony has seen a surge of purchases over the last week, such that the PS Vita was only outsold by the Nintendo 3DS. Sony's handheld sold 62,543 units in Japan between February 25 and March 3, according to data from Media Create and as reported by NeoGAF. That's up from 11,456 units sold the week before, and 8,044 the week before that. In comparison, the 3DS sold 77,439 units in Japan this week, up from 74,729 week-over-week. The boost also spelled good news for PS Vita software. While there were no Vita games in the top 20 best-selling for the week prior, three Vita titles jumped into this week's top 20 -- Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus: Otome Shoujotachi no Shoumei, Phantasy Star Online 2: Special Package and Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational.
