Sony announced today that it has sold more than 7 million PlayStation 4 consoles worldwide as of April 6, roughly five months after the console was launched last November. In addition, Sony claims that more than 20 million copies of PlayStation 4 software have been sold worldwide across both retail and digital markets. This type of corporate chest beating is typically echoed by the competition, so it's a bit odd that Microsoft hasn't spoken publicly about sales of the Xbox One since its second quarter fiscal report in January. During that report the company revealed that it had shipped 3.9 million Xbox One units in 2013. Roughly six weeks ago Sony announced that it had surpassed 6 million PlayStation 4 units sold worldwide, suggesting that sales of the console remain relatively steady -- roughly 1 million units were sold in the past six weeks, and 1.1 million were sold in the six weeks prior to that.
