Oculus taps Harmonix to fill out the Rift set list with Rock Band VR

Oculus VR frontman Palmer Luckey last night announced Rock Band VR, a collaboration between Oculus Studios and Harmonix to bring the studio's venerable plastic instrument game to the Rift next year.

Oculus VR frontman Palmer Luckey appeared onstage at The Game Awards last night to promote Rock Band VR, a newly-announced collaboration between Oculus Studios and Harmonix to bring the studio's venerable plastic instrument game to the Rift next year.

The fact that Harmonix isn't the sole developer on Rock Band VR is interesting, because it suggests that Oculus saw enough value in the Rock Band franchise to cut a deal with Harmonix and devote Oculus Studios resources (money and developers) to bringing a Rock Band game to the Rift.

Oculus chief Brendan Iribe has also confirmed the game will work with Oculus' Touch controllers, which is firmly in line with Iribe's comments to Gamasutra earlier this year about how the company is using Oculus Studios resources to bring notable, Touch-compatible games on the Rift.

Harmonix itself seems to be playing the VR field a bit, having already announced plans to release Harmonix Music VR for PlayStation VR headsets next year.
