Oculus VR founder Palmer Luckey announced today that everyone who orders an Oculus Rift headset will receive 4 months' worth of Unity Pro (a roughly $300 value) for free.
It seems notable because it's an effort on Unity's part to seed a free taste of his company's pro toolset among all Oculus Rift owners -- not just game developers.
Luckey made the announcement while speaking onstage with Unity chief John Riccitiello today at the engine company's first-ever VR conference, and joked that the deal had come together less than 24 hours earlier.
Of course, for now this is just a pre-order incentive, since the $600 (in the U.S.) commercial version of the Oculus Rift only became available for pre-order last month and is not expected to begin shipping until April.
Unity's Vision Summit is expected to continue through the end of tomorrow. Earlier today Valve chief Gabe Newell made an appearance (via video) during the conference keynote to announce official SteamVR support for Unity and let everyone attending know they'd receive a free HTC Vive Pre devkit.
