The Pokémon Company's creative design director, Eric Medalle, passed away in a windstorm on March 13.

News site King5 is reporting that Medalle lost his life after a Douglas fir tree landed on his car after being brought down by intense winds.

Medalle was reportedly taking one of his daughters for a drive on Sunday afternoon when the incident occurred. His daughter was pulled from the wreckage by a passerby, and was treated for minor injuries at a nearby hospital. Medalle's injuries, however, proved fatal.

At the Pokémon Company Medalle co-designed the logos for the Pokémon Trading Card Game and the recent XY television series. He was also an illustrator for the Pokémon Trading Figure Game.

As well as his illustration work, Medalle worked on a number of Pokémon video games, most notably creating the English-version artwork for HeartGold and SoulSilver, along with the English and European graphics for Pokemon X and Y

He leaves behind a wife and two daughters.
