Nintendo survey reveals who's purchasing the Switch

According to a recent U.S. survey conducted by Nintendo, most Switch purchases are being made by "male consumers in their 20s and early 30s."

The Nintendo Switch is a hot commodity right now. The console has already racked up close to 8 million sales worldwide, and that number could double by the end of the fiscal year.

If that happens, the Switch will have surpassed the Wii U's lifetime sales total during its first year on shelves, but who's actually buying the hybrid console?

Well, according to a recent U.S. survey conducted by Nintendo, most Switch purchases are being made by "male consumers in their 20s and early 30s."

The email questionnaire, which targeted 600,000 people who had associated a Nintendo Account with their Switch, asked respondents to reveal the age and gender of the person in their house "who had the strongest desire to purchase the Switch."

Over 60,000 people replied, and the results (shown below) suggest 86 percent of Switch buyers are men, with only 11 percent being identified as women.

Looking at the age of buyers, 43 percent fell into the 25-34 age group, while 20 percent slotted into the 19-24 category.

The results also showed solid interest among those aged 10 to 19, which Nintendo believes could signal future growth in its consumer base.
