Things aren't going so well at social developer Loot Drop today, as studio co-founder Brenda Romero (formerly Brenda Brathwaite) just revealed that the company had to cancel its upcoming social game Ghost Recon Commander and thus lay off the entire development team. At the moment, it's unclear how many employees have lost their jobs. Romero did note, however, that the studio still has two additional projects in production, and another in the design stages. Even so, Ghost Recon Commander was easily among the studio's most high-profile titles to date. Not only did it leverage a popular Ubisoft license, it had also received a bit of early recognition, as it recently secured a runner up slot in the "Best Free to Play" category at the Golden Joystick Awards. Romero did not disclose why the project had to come to an end, but noted that she's currently focused on helping the displaced team find new work. "Right now, I care about the people we had to lay off," she said. Of course, this isn't the only bad news to hit Loot Drop in the last few days. Just last week, Romero and industry veteran Tom Hall decided to halt their Kickstarter campaign for an "old school RPG" after admitting that their pitch for the project wasn't strong enough. We've reached out to Loot Drop and Ubisoft for more information, but have not heard back as of press time. [Update: Romero has told us that about a dozen employees have been let go.]
