Learn to build mobile games better at GDC 2015

GDC officials highlight a handful of great GDC 2015 talks from some experienced developers on the topic of mobile game design.

The field of mobile game design is still relatively young and bursting with potential; today, conference officials a few notable talks on the subject that you must see at GDC 2015 in March.

These talks are part of the GDC Smartphone & Tablet Games Summit, one of eight that will take place Monday, March 2nd and Tuesday, March 3rd at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, CA during the first two days of the conference.

Here's an interesting challenge: Can you make an old game new again?  Halfbrick's chief product officer Ramine Darabiha tackles the topic during his talk, "Games As A Service: Rebooting a 4 Year Old Game to the Top Charts."

Check it out to hear how Halfbrick successfully rebooted its mobile game Age of Zombies (pictured), the philosophy of the reboot, and how new or existing games companies should continue to realize the full potential of a game by coupling the "Games As A Service" model with disruptive updates.

Also, Google's Jon Sharkey will discuss the value of building your next game in cross-platform C++ in his talk "Going It Alone: Cross-Platform Mobile C++ Myths Debunked." Sharkey hopes to shed some light on the many myths and realities of cross-platform C++ development, and you'll walk away with practical advice about build systems, device variation and useful development tools.

Plus, make time to check out "Education in Gaming: Narrative as a Tool for Fostering Engagement" for some fascinating insight into what makes educational games compelling from game maker and educator Jennifer Young. She'll share lessons learned from her work on High School Story and offer developers concrete tips for using game narrative to foster meaningful learning opportunities.

Not enough? Check out the list of all announced talks available now in the online GDC 2015 Session Scheduler, where you can begin to build your conference week and later export it to the up-to-the-minute GDC Mobile App, coming soon.
