Kickstarter CEO Aziz Hasan to step down in April
Hasan will remain at the company as an advisor for the next "several months."
Kickstarter CEO Aziz Hasan is stepping down after three years. The outgoing chief exec will be replaced by COO Sean Leow in an interim capacity while the board of directors searches for a permanent successor.
Hasan intends to remain at the company as an advisor over the next "several months" after working his final day as CEO on April 4, 2022.
The news comes shortly after Kickstater, which has enabled the crowdfunding of numerous video game projects over the years, announced plans to reshape its business by using blockchain technology to create a "decentralised crowdfunding protocol."
The company has since softened its tone where the blockchain is concerned, later telling customers that it's aware of "the environmental issues, scams, speculation, and risks" associated with the technology.
That said, Kickstater still intends to cautiously push ahead with its blockchain plans, but now also wants to hear the feedback of its users before finalising the details.
"We’re not going to force this [change] on creators and communities for whom Kickstarter is already working well. We’re not going to automatically shift all of Kickstarter to a new infrastructure," said the company in February.
"We’ll make sure there’s a proof of concept with the creators who want to use it. We’ll look to integrate the pieces that offer value to the larger community down the line, but not without your input shaping the direction."
