Late last year, Jonathan Blow
hinted via an image-only post on his blog that his upcoming first-person puzzle and exploration game,
The Witness, would be playable via VR systems. Today,
he confirmed that he has been working directly with Valve on bringing the game to VR using its technology.
"Last year I was pessimistic about VR systems in the near future,"
writes Blow. "But I was fortunate enough to get a sneak peek at Valve’s virtual reality system. It is so much better than anything else I had used that I was instantly very excited by it."
"In late November I spent a few days at Valve’s offices working with Atman Binstock and Doug Church to adapt the HMD’s input system more thoroughly for
The Witness and to build a few scenes that are playable on the device," Blow writes.
"So, we will be supporting [Valve's] device (and any similar devices) with
The Witness. But I am really looking forward to see what gets designed specifically for devices like this."
Valve has long been pursuing VR research. At its recent Steam Developer Days the company reiterated that
it has no plans to launch its own consumer product, however. It is currently cooperating with Oculus on technology that has gone into that company's
latest prototype headset.
