Insomniac Games, developer behind the Resistance shooter franchise, has launched a new free-to-play browser game as a means of complementing the upcoming launch of Resistance 3. Announced as part of a Resistance 3 panel at Comic-Con in San Diego, Global Resistance is an online strategy game that sees players taking control of either the human race or the Chimera alien race in a constant world war. Troops can be deployed anywhere in the world to aid your side in battle, while it's also possible to build up your own base and complete side-missions for extra experience points. Completing challenges and leveling up in Global Resistance will then unlock exclusive multiplayer skins, in-game titles and experience boosters for the upcoming PS3 title. Insomniac's senior community manager James Stevenson noted on the PlayStation blog that Global Resistance is now available to play at the official Resistance site. As part of a Gamasutra feature earlier this month, Cameron Christian, senior designer for Resistance 3's single player at Insomniac Games, discussed changing the game's design to accommodate the most overpowered weapon in the game.
