Social games company Portalarium, founded by veteran Ultima creator Richard Garriott, has secured extra funding, according to a new report. [UPDATE: m8 has since confirmed the details of the reported deal.] The latest investment in Portalarium brings the total amount of funds raised to $3.6 million, although the actual funding amounts were not officially disclosed. The investment was granted by London investor m8 Capital with San Francisco-based Founders Fund. The money is set to allow Portalarium to release its first game sometime in the next few months, bringing "premium games to the social web." Garriott launched Portalarium early last year, noting that he sees the same kind of opportunity in social gaming as he saw at the emergence of massively multiplayer gaming. He sold his company Origin to Electronic Arts back in 1992, where he eventually resigned in 2000 and joined NCsoft a year later to help design the developer's MMORPGs. The designer left NCsoft in 2008.
