Game Outcomes Project seeks crowdfunding for another study of how devs work

The folks behind the landmark Game Outcomes Project (a survey of how game devs work) are hoping to do something similar on a bigger scale, and today they launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the costs.

The fact that there will be another study in the vein of the Game Outcomes Project is potentially a big deal, since the original (conducted in late 2014) offered up a ton of interesting insights into what makes an effective game dev team and how crunching affects the quality of a team's final product.

Specifically, results from the original survey (which was given to hundreds of devs around the industry) strongly suggest that crunch makes games worse, and great game dev teams tend to share common traits like strong feedback loops, a clear shared vision of the project, and a willingness to resolve conflicts quickly and professionally.

You can read more insights from the original Game Outcomes Project on co-creator Paul Tozour's Gamasutra blog, or watch him break it down for you in his hour-long GDC 2016 talk on the venture.

Since we're talking about a funding campaign it's worth pointing out that the results of another Game Outcomes Project study may well be featured on Gamasutra in the future, via the blog of Tozour or another contributor on the project.
