The Madison Square Garden Company (MSG), the holding company and owner of the famous Madison Square Garden arena in New York, has appointed former Twitch exec Nick Allen as its new vice president of eSports.

It's a notable move given the high-profile nature of MSG's flagship venue, and serves as yet another example of the eSports industry's growing appeal.

As well as running Madison Square Gardens, MSG also operates other venues around the U.S. and manages a number of professional sports teams including the New York Knicks and New York Rangers.

Allen, who previously served as Twitch's VP of eSports, will be responsible for driving the firm's efforts to expand its presence in the burgeoning eSports industry. He will also oversee the running of MGS's newly acquired eSports franchise, Counter Logic Gaming.

"Mr. Allen will serve as CLG's chief operating officer, working closely with CLG founder and president George Georgallidis on advancing the company's initiatives," explains a press release.

"This includes finding new and innovative ways to grow the brand, driving marketing partnerships, developing media rights opportunities and creating live, ticketed events.

"In addition, he will develop relationships with major game publishers, leagues and entities across the eSports industry, including the NBA2K eSports league, as well as help create events to showcase eSports teams and content at MSG's venues across the country."
