GDC's former general manager of events Meggan Scavio has been appointed president of the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS).

AIAS is a leading not-for-profit organization dedicated to the advancement and recognition of the interactive arts, and is also the organizer behind the D.I.C.E. Summit.

In her new role, Scavio will oversee the AIAS' many initiatives and events, which include European-based offerings like the D.I.C.E. Europe conference.

During her 18 years at GDC parent company UBM, she was responsible for supervising all of GDC's domestic and international conferences, including GDC Europe, GDC China, GDC Online, and VRDC.

She began her career at UBM as an operations manager and conference associate liaison back when the popular expo was held at the San Jose Convention Center.

"I've attended nearly every D.I.C.E. Summit and Awards show for the past 11 years," commented Scavio. "I'm looking forward to this next adventure and opportunity to really shape and evolve the identity of the AIAS in this next era of video games."

Gamasutra and GDC are sibling organizations under parent UBM Americas
