Pinball Hall of Fame series developer FarSight Studios has announced The Pinball Arcade, a multi-platform downloadable pinball simulation that will feature over 50 licensed, classic tables as regularly released DLC. The game's Twitter account claims the base title will include recreations of Williams' Tales of the Arabian Nights, Stern's Ripley's Believe It Or Not, Gottlieb's Black Hole and Midway's Theatre of Magic. Two additional downloadable tables are planned for release every month for what the launch trailer promises is "years to come." The DLC strategy mirrors Zen Studios' Pinball FX series, which regularly offers original tables as DLC, including ones based on licenses like Street Fighter II Turbo and Ms. Splosion Man. In a Gamasutra postmortem for that game, Zen said releasing tables as "impulse buy" DLC on top of a free base product was the right business model for this type of title. FarSight's previous experience with virtual pinball simulations includes two Pinball Hall of Fame titles: The Gottlieb Collection for PS2, Xbox and GameCube; and The Williams collection which saw release on the PSP, PS2, Wii, PS3, Xbox 360, and just last month on the 3DS. The new compilation is slated for release on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, PlayStation Vita, Nintendo 3DS, PC, Mac, and Android and iOS platforms in early 2012, according to the launch web site.
