Martin Kenwright, the founder of Evolution Studios and the progenitor of Motorstorm, is in the news today talking up his new studio: Starship. Starship doesn't appear to be a traditional game studio, though it's staffed by game industry veterans who have contributed to games like WipeOut, World Rally Championship, Project Gotham Racing and Blur. But the studio's website portrays it as a studio that "develops experiences" across games, technology, lifestyle and entertainment. The company was founded by Kenwright in 2013, five years after he sold Evolution Studios to Sony and took an "enforced sabbatical" in 2007. “I had five years away from making games, during which I came to the conclusion that gaming investment is broken," Kenwright stated in a press release publicizing the studio's existence. "Real innovation seems to have taken a backseat. The concept for Starship takes our AAA softology and wraps it around the antidote." Whatever that antidote may be, it's unlikely to be a traditional $60 racing game -- Kenwright told Polygon that Starship seeks to "produce the very first or the very best in every sector in lifestyle, self-help and entertainment," but the studio seems to be holding off on explaining what it's actually working on until E3 2014, which takes place in June. Gamasutra has reached out to representatives of Starship for more information about what the studio is up to.
