ESL lays plans to launch new 24/7 eSports satellite TV channel

Next month the Electronic Sports League plans to launch eSportsTV, which purports to be "the world's first 24/7 eSports TV channel", on the Modern Times Group's Viasat satellite TV service.

Next month the Electronic Sports League plans to launch eSportsTV, which purports to be "the world's first 24/7 eSports TV channel", on the Modern Times Group's Viasat satellite TV service.

While professional competitive gameplay has been broadcast on television for years now, this new eSportsTV channel (not to be confused with other eSportsTVs) is notable for its ambition to broadcast round-the-clock.

It's yet unclear if eSportsTV, which will only be viewable via Viasat in select Nordic and Baltic countries, will broadcast coverage of any games or events outside of ESL's purview. 

What is clear is that the audience for eSports coverage is seen by many to be approaching that of traditional sports, as game companies and media outlets partner to broadcast coverage of games like Call of Duty and League of Legends on television and satellite radio
