Early Access coming to Android via Google Play

A new section called Google Play Early Access, which will include a "hand-picked group of promising open betas that haven’t gone to production yet" is coming to Android phones.

The news keeps coming from Google I/O. According to a Google Plus post from the Android Developers group, game developers will be able to launch Early Access Android games on the Google Play store soon.

Details are somewhat scant, but the section will comprise "a hand-picked group of promising open betas that haven’t gone to production yet" in the categories of both apps and games.

They'll appear "soon" in Google Play search results, the platform-holder promises. Google Play users will be able to opt-in to the Early Access program from the Play store, and send private feedback to developers on their in-development projects.

You can find a little more in Google's original post on the topic.

This comes alongside the announcement of Google's Daydream mobile VR platform (which gained support from both Unity and Unreal Engine) and news that Chromebooks will soon support Android apps. Developer reactions to Daydream are here, by the way, if you're curious.
