EA: 25 million PlayStation 4 and Xbox Ones will be sold in 2016

Speaking in a conference call after announcing EA's high-powered fiscal results, EA has revealed its expectations for a collective total of 25 million more PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles to be sold this year, VentureBeat reports.

EA had already said that a total of 55 million of the two were sold by the end of 2016, and recently updated the sell-through for current-gen consoles (excluding Nintendo's Wii U, which EA no longer develops games for) to 60 million units.

That means by the end of 2016, EA projects there will be a mix of 80 million PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles in the wild.

As for how those break down, we only know for sure that roughly 36 million PlayStation 4s have been sold as of early this year; Microsoft no longer reports the hardware sales of its consoles, though using EA's 55 million number and Sony's number, were able to guess a total of around 19 million Xbox Ones sold early this year.
