Cuba's first ever indie game launches on Indiegogo

"The imitations in Cuba, especially the lack of internet access, make it very challenging to develop a video game."

You probably haven't heard much about Cuba's indie game scene, and that's because, until now, it didn't exist.

Empty Head Games founder, Josuhe Pagliery, is looking to change that by putting the island nation on the game dev map with the studio's debut title, Savior

A surreal, fully animated 2D platformer, Savior will be the first ever indie game to be created in the country -- where limited internet access, poor banking infrastructure, and strict government regulations still prevent most forms of free enterprise.

Pagliery hopes to use crowdfunding to bypass those issues, and is trying to raise $10,000 through Indiegogo to see the project through.

"The imitations in Cuba, especially the lack of internet access, make it very challenging to develop a video game," he explained. "But we're confident that we can overcome them, especially with the help of the Indiegogo backers."

"For us, this isn't just a video game. It's a chance to show Cuba, and the world, that something like this is possible. It's our opportunity to set the course for video game development in Cuba and create a model for tech innovators in the country."

Pagliery's Indiegogo campaign launched earlier this week and will finish at the end of November. At the time of writing, 18 backers have donated $3,576.
