Flurry has revealed that Christmas Day 2011 saw the highest number of daily smartphone activations and app downloads ever recorded.
More than 6.8 million iOS and Android devices were activated on December 25, compared to the previous single-day record of 2.8 million activations, that was held by Christmas Day of 2010 -- an increase of 140 percent. Google's
Andy Rubin also tweeted that there were over 3.7 million Android devices activated on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day combined.
In comparison, 242 million apps were downloaded for iOS and Android devices on Christmas Day, more than doubling the previous single-day record. Overall, Flurry expects over one billion app downloads to occur between Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
