Canada's game dev industry grows: 472 studios, 20,400 people

The Entertainment Software Association of Canada has released stats that show that Canadian studios have grown dramatically in just the last couple of years.

According to the ESAC, there are 472 studios employing 20,400 people across the country, a 24 percent rise over 2013. The association says that the industry's contribution to the Canadian GDP for 2015 jumped to $3 billion CAD ($2.25 billion USD).

There's more interesting data buried in the press release, too: there are 24 studios in the country that employ more than 100, and they comprise 91 percent of the game industry employees in Canada. Over 50 percent of the country's game developers are found in Quebec -- the province best known for providing significant financial incentives to major game studios.

The U.S. ESA released similar stats last month -- claiming that there are 1,641 game development studios and publishers in the U.S.

We present the ESAC's infographic, which sums up some of its info, below.
