BAFTA Awards honor Destiny, Monument Valley, and David Braben

Tonight's BAFTA awards in the UK continued to highlight the vibrancy of the independent development scene -- as a number of smaller titles walked off with statuettes.

Tonight the British Academy of Film and Television Arts held its annual awards ceremony in London, and handed a game of the year statuette to Bungie for Destiny. The best British game award went to Ustwo for Monument Valley, meanwhile (and celebrated in style, as shown in the photo above).

Overall, the awards favored a number of smaller games, both independent and developed by more established studios: Upper One Games won debut game for Never Alone, Lumino City grabbed an artistic achievement award for studio State of Play, and Ubisoft's Valiant Hearts took "original property" honors.

David Braben, recently honored at the Game Developers Choice Awards with a Pioneer Award, also took home the BAFTA Fellowship, "in recognition of an outstanding and exceptional contribution to film, television or games."
