International human rights organization Amnesty International has released
Bulletproof, an iOS game designed to raise money while also spreading the group's message in a new medium.
Created by
Edge designers Mobigame and sponsored by French ad agency La Chose,
the game asks players to tap the screen to stop bullets being fired at a condemned man by a firing squad.
Proceeds from the 99 cent download "will contribute to help Amnesty International to stay independent," according to the organization, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
Garnering support for social causes through games is not entirely new. Last April
saw the launch of Armchair Revolutionary, which seeks to fund projects for social change using commercial grade video games.
Animal rights organization PETA has previously used web-based Flash games to call attention to their cause with
parodies of Cooking Mama and
Super Meat Boy, among others.
