Activision Signs Deal With DJ Hero Developer FreeStyle Games

British DJ Hero developer Freestyle Games has signed a new deal with its current publisher Activision, after a few months of negotiations. Activision announced 500 layoffs across its studios back in February, leaving Freestyle's future in question. But Freestyle's creative director Jamie Jackson said at the time, "We're actively working with Activision on various options going forward for the studio." Talking to news site Develop, Jackson has now confirmed that a new project has been signed up, although 30 jobs are set to be cut. "Over the past three months we have examined a number of options for our studio's future with Activision," he said. "Today we are excited to share with our fans and community the news that we will continue our strong partnership with Activision, with work starting on a new, innovative project." He continued, "While we are still in a consultation process we cannot release details about the project we will be working on but we look forward to sharing more information in the coming months." FreeStyle Games was acquired by Activision back in 2008, as part of the publisher’s stated "commitment to the music-based genre." Activision already disbanded the Guitar Hero franchise earlier in the year, citing declines in the music genre and a desire to focus on higher-margin opportunities in the online space.
