In a week that saw Nintendo announce that it will be slashing the price of its Nintendo 3DS system later this month, sales of the console dropped rapidly in the hardware sales charts in Japan. For the week ended July 31, data supplied by tracking firm Media Create, as posted on NeoGAF, saw sales of the 3DS almost halved, down to 16,415 from 31,826 in the previous week. For the first time since its launch, the console dropped below both the Nintendo Wii and the PlayStation 3 in sales. The PS3 managed 20,704 units sold, while the Wii sold 18,232 units. The PSP rose to the top of the charts, gaining a boost of 10,000 sales to knock it up to 36,659 units sold from 26,854 units last week. At the lower end of the charts, sales of both the Nintendo DS Lite and the PSP Go continued to fall. The DS Lite sold 138 units, while the now-discontinued PSP Go sold just 7 in total. Below are the full sales rankings from Media Create for the week ended July 31, 2011. (The second chart lumps together sales of all models in a given line of hardware.)
