Nintendo's 3DS console continued its dominance of the weekly Japanese hardware sales charts this week, following the August 12 price cut. During the week ended August 21, the handheld sold a total of 105,639 units, having sold 196,077 in the previous week, according to tracking data from Media Create and as reported by NeoGAF. Although sales of the 3DS dwarfed every other console, the PSP still shifted plenty of units, for a total of 40,888. The PlayStation 3 also saw a significant increase in sales, up to 29,666 units this week. In comparison, Nintendo's Wii console saw a slight decline in sales, down to 18,256 units, while its DS console continued to sell well despite the rise of the 3DS. Down at the bottom, the PSP Go is still hanging on for dear life with a total of 13 sales over the week, while the original PlayStation 2 outsold the Xbox 360, with 1,789 units to 1,427. Below are the full sales rankings from Media Create for the week ended August 21, 2011. (The second chart lumps together sales of all models in a given line of hardware.)
