Newsbrief: Develop reports that Team17, creator of Worms and Alien Breed, will develop a game based on new, original IP after more than a decade of producing titles within the studio's established franchises.

The studio's new project is Flockers, and it was revealed by Team17 managing director Debbie Bestwick during the PlayStation Open Day event held today in Royal Leamington Spa, a town in the U.K. county of Warwickshire. Bestwick provided no details on the game itself other than to highlight the fact that it's the studio's first new intellectual property since Team17 made Stunt GP in 2001.

While that's true, the studio has developed games using other developer's IP in the interim, including the PlayStation Portable version of Lemmings released in 2006 and 2009's Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust.

Though it is perhaps best known as the (independent) developer of the remarkably successful Worms games, Team17 has also dabbled in publishing during its 25-year lifespan. Most recently the company announced that it would be publishing The Escapists, a prison escape sim created by Mouldy Toof Studios.
