As it releases a sequel to the game for PCs, Finnish independent developer Frozenbyte revealed that its action platformer Trine has sold over 1.1 million copies across various platforms. The studio launched the fantasy-themed, physics-based 2D title for Windows in July 2009, and then for PlayStation Network later in the year. It also put out versions for Mac, Linux, and cloud gaming service OnLive in 2010. Frozenbyte said a bulk of Trine's sales came from Steam and independent games/charity campaign Humble Indie Bundle, and pointed out that OnLive played a "notable part" in the game's continued sales, according to a report from GameSpot. The game's success helped Frozenbyte pick up a publishing deal for its sequel with Atlus. Trine 2 released on Tuesday for Windows and Mac for $15 on Steam -- consumers can also purchase it directly from Frozenbyte's website for the title. Trine 2 appears on PlayStation Network in North America on December 20, and in Europe some time this month. It debuts for Xbox Live Arcade worldwide on December 2011. A Linux version releases in 2012, and an OnLive edition is planned, too.
