Sega has announced that
Sonic Generations, the upcoming title from the
Sonic the Hedgehog platforming series, has seen more pre-orders than any
Sonic title before it.
The game was revealed earlier this year, and promises to mix gameplay styles from both the classic 2D
Sonics and modern 3D releases.
Being released as part of Sega's 20-year anniversary of the
Sonic franchise, the game is now the "most anticipated title" the franchise has even seen, said Sega.
Notably, the company did not release actual pre-order numbers, meaning there is no way to know exactly what these record-breaking figures are.
Alan Pritchard, executive vice president of marketing at SOA, said of the news, "
Sonic Generations is the ultimate title to cap off
Sonic's 20th anniversary and we have put our full support behind it with a number of truly amazing initiatives."
"This year is a milestone for
Sonic and we want to make sure this is the best title that
Sonic fans, old and new, have been waiting for."
Earlier this year,
the company also revealed that 1993 Sega CD platformer
Sonic CD will be released for download on consoles, PC and mobile phone platforms later this year.
