creator Markus "Notch" Persson has revealed via Twitter
that his indie hit has surpassed 2.5 million sales.
This new figure comes in less than two months after Minecraft hit 2 million copies sold
, meaning the title has sold an additional 500,000 copies since late April.
Currently, Minecraft is only available on PC, though developer Mojang has announced that the title will launch on iOS
, as well as Xbox 360
. The recently-announced Xbox 360 version will support the Kinect hardware and is due to launch later this year.
In a September interview
with Gamasutra sister site IndieGames.com, Persson admitted that he never expected the game to be so popular. "I don't really know why it has sold so well," he said.
