Amid what 343 Industries calls the "season of remakes," Microsoft's
Halo team confirms it will add stereoscopic 3D to upcoming revamp
Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary.
Consumer site Eurogamer
previewed the feature, and reports that by adding stereoscopic 3D, the team hopes to take the anniversary edition of the original
Halo a step beyond the present trend of releasing updated or high-definition versions of key games.
"People are taking their games and putting them in HD and saying, 'Yo, remake, go!'," executive producer Dan Ayoub said. "
Halo fans deserve better than that. We really wanted this to be a celebration of 10 years of
Halo."
Microsoft has previously confirmed
Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary will also feature Kinect support.
However, Ayoub told Eurogamer that the move isn't indicative of a 3D mandate for the
Halo brand. While other platform-holders have directly pursued 3D -- Nintendo with its recent handheld, Sony with its cultivation of a relationship between PlayStation 3 and its Bravia TVs -- Microsoft has been more cautious.
"I don't think 3D is representative of a goal for the franchise," Ayoub said. "This is something we wanted to do for Anniversary, because we wanted to make it special with as many cool features as we could."
Halo Anniversary is
set to be a $39.99 retail release, and will launch on November 15.
