Fallout: New Vegas dev Obsidian could be involved in Wasteland 2

Wasteland 2 developer InXile has revealed that it plans to partner with prolific RPG studio Obsidian Entertainment to finish its upcoming game -- but there's one caveat: the project's Kickstarter needs to hit $2.1 million first.

With funds still pouring in for inXile's Kickstarter-funded game Wasteland 2, the project's scope is beginning to expand alongside its budget. Now, inXile has revealed that prolific RPG studio Obsidian Entertainment might step in to help, but only if the Kickstarter reaches $2.1 million. If the project reaches that goal, a group of Obsidian developers, including Interplay veteran Chris Avellone, will step in to help with the game's design and provide tools that will speed up its development. Avellone in particular has plenty of experience working alongside inXile founder Brian Fargo, as they both worked together at Black Isle Studios, the company behind classic RPGs like Planescape: Torment and Wasteland's spiritual successor, the Fallout series. "I have been working on getting Obsidian and Chris Avellone involved early on to help with design work," inXile CEO Brian Fargo told Gamasutra. "Chris brings a wonderful writing style and density that I wanted Wasteland 2 to have. Their involvement is pure design with some tools to help us get assets in quicker. " Fargo added that the game's primary development efforts will remain at inXile, as he wants to keep a close eye on the project from beginning to end. As of this writing, the Wasteland 2 Kickstarter has earned $1.7 million, meaning that to secure Obsidian's participation, the project needs to earn another $400,000 in the remaining 17 days before the campaign ends. InXile debuted the campaign on March 13, and raised the target goal of $900,000 in less than two days. Fargo has been particularly outspoken about his enthusiasm for the project, and when the campaign hit its goal, he said, "It is a dream to focus all my attention on making a wonderful experience without distraction from outside forces."
