Zombie shooter Dead Island has now shipped more than three million units worldwide since its multiplatform launch in September, up from the two million shipped figure given in September.
Zombie shooter Dead Island has now shipped more than three million units worldwide since its multiplatform launch in September. The co-op multiplayer RPG, developed by Poland-based Techland and published by Deep Silver, received above average reviews from the press back at launch, while an incorrect version of the PC build was accidentally released and had to be replaced. Despite this, the game still went on to ship one million units in North America in its first week on sale over its Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC versions, and had shipped two million units worldwide in total two weeks after release. Publisher Deep Silver has now told Game Informer that Dead Island has shipped more than three million copies in total worldwide. Aubrey Norris, manager of marketing & PR at Deep Silver, stated, "Dead Island has sold very, very well over the holiday season and we are thrilled that it has sustained a robust level of sell-through since launch in September." Major film studio Lionsgate revealed shortly after the release of Dead Island that it has optioned the rights to develop a movie based on the zombie game, though the game itself will not be the primary source for the adaptation.
