Square Enix has announced that fan-favorite SNES RPG Chrono Trigger will be downloadable on the Wii's U.S. Virtual Console on Monday, May 16, confirming previous reports of the game's existence from the ESRB. The new release joins ports for PlayStation Network and Japanese cell phone networks planned for this year, as well as previous re-releases on the Nintendo DS and original PlayStation. The Japanese Wii Virtual Console received the game on April 26. Chrono Trigger will be Square Enix's ninth release for the U.S. Virtual Console, and be available for a standard cost of 800 Wii Points ($8). New releases for the U.S. Virtual Console have been coming once every two weeks in recent months, declining from a rate of two to five weekly releases following the system's late 2006 launch. There are currently just over 600 games available on the Japanese Virtual Console market, compared to just under 400 for its North American and European counterparts.
