One Piece has one of PS3's best debuts, as Japanese PS Vita sales slip even further

Namco Bandai's One Piece: Pirate Warriors had one of the best Japanese debuts for a PlayStation 3 game last week and helped more than double sales for Sony's console, but PS Vita saw its sales hitting a record low. One Piece: Pirate Warriors, a mash-up of popular manga/anime franchise One Piece with Tecmo Koei's long-running Warriors/Musou action game series, had the second best-selling launch week for a PS3 game after moving 655,774 copies -- behind Final Fantasy XIII's 1.5 million launch week sales in 2010. The game helped more than double hardware sales for PS3 to 65,116 consoles sold, compared to 27,111 in the previous week. Sony released a limited edition gold PS3 system bundle for One Piece: Pirate Warriors, which likely played a factor in the increased sales last week. PS Vita, however, had nothing to turn around its decline as it dropped to an all-time low of 10,023 portables sold last week. No PS Vita titles managed to break into Media Create's top 20 software sales chart for retail, and the handheld continues to trail behind PSP hardware sales. Nintendo 3DS software once again dominated with third-party games like Marvelous AQL's Harvest Moon: The Land of Origin, Square Enix's Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, and Capcom's Monster Hunter 3G, as well as with Nintendo titles like Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7. Other notable releases last week included Nintendo's Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games for 3DS, Namco Bandai's Great Battle Full Blast for PSP, FuRyu's Doraemon: Nobita and the Island of Miracles for 3DS, and Konami's UFC Undisputed 3. 3DS was once again the top-selling console in Japan, as it has been ever since its price cut last summer, and it ended the week with 70,744 portables sold.
