3D development tools maker Stonetrip has announced a new version of its Shiva Editor for Windows, Mac, Linux and iPhone, that adds visual effects tools and performance improvements. According to the company, the new Shiva engine is 50 percent faster than the previous version, as it adds depth of field, velocity blur, cascaded shadow maps algorithm, infinite ocean simulation with advanced shading system, dynamic textures, video streaming and more. "As we focus our future development on iPhone OpenGL ES 2.0 and Linux-powered mobile systems such as Android, we have to provide the highest-quality engine," says Stonetrip CEO Philip Belhassen, Stonetrip CEO. The company says its Shiva editor is used by over 15,000 developers worldwide. It ships with a free software development kit for Windows, Mac, Linux and iPhone, and includes an integrated server for multiplayer games. The Shiva engine has been used in games and apps including PC title Olympique Lyonnais Virtual Stadium and iPhone games Pocket Fish, Coldplay Strawberry Swing and Crosak.
