UI/UX ArtistObsidian Entertainment

Location: Irvine, CA

Obsidian Entertainment is looking for a talented and experienced UI artist to design the user experience for a next generation game.

This artist will be responsible for creating a ground breaking user-experience, including laying out designs, creating concepts, and mockups, creating in-game assets, assembling them, animating them and exporting them, using Adobe Flash CS5 and Scaleform.

 

Requirements

Able to work with programmers and designers to design the user-interface, assemble menus and other interact able elements in Flash.

Able to create animations and contemporary effects for UI elements. Be extremely familiar with Flash and Photoshop.

Have exceptional motivation, be self-managing, and a passion for video games.

Able to adhere to tight schedules with minimal supervision.

3+ years of professional experience working as a UI artist in computer gaming or a related field.

1+ AAA titles shipped as a UI artist.

Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.

Must be receptive to art direction and perform well within a team setting.

Must be attentive to schedules and work well under pressure.

 

Responsibilities 

Design user interfaces that manage complex information and flow intuitively.

Create initial mockups for a variety of UI screens including Front End screens, HUD, in-game menus and backgrounds, etc.

Create simple and complex UI animations in Flash.

Create and implementing all required UI elements.

Maintain and optimize UI assets and files.

Collaborate effectively with art leads during review sessions which results in the finest artistic look possible.

Meet project deadlines and milestones, as set by project leads, and the producer.

Consistently exercise sound judgment in all areas of expertise.

 

Plusses

Previous experience on mobile or browser based Flash applications or games.

A good technical aptitude and some knowledge of Actionscript.

Previous experience with video editing or compositing.

Examples of web design (Flash, HTML, CSS, or XML).

Familiarity with any of the following programs: Premier, Dreamweaver, After Effects, Scaleform.

An understanding of typography.

 

Portfolio Requirements

A web portfolio that demonstrates a range of high quality UI screens and animation

Samples from previous industry work

Art resumes must be accompanied by a Website portfolio.
